Frequently Asked Questions

  • Acupuncture is a key component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that involves the insertion of hair-thin, sterile needles at specific points on the body to stimulate the flow of Qi (energy), promote natural healing, and restore balance. It is commonly used to relieve pain, reduce stress levels, improve circulation, and support overall wellness.

Backed by both ancient medical system and modern day research, this practice is safe and effective treatment for a wide range of conditions, from chronic pain to your mental health.

  • Acupuncture works by stimulating points on the body, known as acupoints. After inserting a needle, the body recognizes it as a “micro-trauma” and responds by drawing attention to that specific location and starts to increase circulation in order to heal.

This practice is based on a meridian system, a network of energy pathways that connect the body’s organs and their functions, ensuring harmony throughout the body. By stimulating the these meridians, acupuncture helps regulate natural systems and activate its self-healing response.

From a modern scientific perspective, acupuncture influences the nervous system, releases endorphins, reduces inflammation, and promotes relaxation and relief overall.

  • To prepare for your treatment, please wear loose, comfortable clothing to allow easy access to acupuncture points.

It’s best to eat a light snack beforehand to maintain stable energy levels and avoid feeling lightheaded.

Stay hydrated before and after your session is very important and helps encourage the body’s natural healing response for the next 24 hours. Arrive relaxed and open to the experience for the best results.

  • The acupuncture needles I use are hair-thin and generally unnoticed when inserted into the skin. Every person has a unique experience to an acupuncture treatment and what one person may feel can be completely different to another person.

It’s a possibility to feel a dull pressure or a tingling sensation, but never should be painful. Throughout the needling session, I ask that you communicate anything you need and how I can support you during. By the time I leave the room you should only start to feel a wonderful relaxation kick in.

  • Absolutely. Is is safe to receive acupuncture during pregnancy and can be very helpful to reduce symptoms associated, such as morning sickness, interrupted sleep or low back pain.

  • Yes, it is okay to return back to your daily activities. I do ask that if you exercise post-treatment it does not consist of high intensity workouts. Acupuncture promotes relaxation and calming the nervous system, so overexertion immediately after may counteract its effects. It’s best to listen to your body and what it’s trying to communicate after acupuncture. I’m more than happy to talk through any questions you may have!

  • During your first appointment, you can expect a thorough consultation. We’ll take the time to discuss your health concerns, medical history, and treatment goals to create a personalized plan.

After our discussion, you’ll receive your first acupuncture treatment, where you’ll lay with the needles in for 30-45 minutes. A call button will be given to you before I leave the room if you need anything at all during your relaxation time on the table.

Before you leave, you’ll receive a detailed treatment plan and schedule your next 1-3 appointments to ensure the best results moving forward.

  • Results from acupuncture vary depending on the condition being treated, your overall health, and how your body responds to the therapy. Some people experience immediate relief, while others notice gradual improvements over several sessions.

Common benefits include less stress, sleeping better at night, digestion improves and reduced pain symptoms overall. Consistency is KEY, and most treatment plans involve multiple sessions to achieve longer-lasting results. I will guide you in the right direction based on what you need.

  • Yin Body Acupuncture is a cash-based practice and does not submit insurance claims first hand. What I can do is create a Superbill with ICD/CPT coding and any appointment details needed for insurance purposes. You can then submit a claim to your health insurance and hopefully get your treatments covered.
